I Love My Country [Song]

I LOVE MY COUNTRY
Performed by Machel Montano (1986)
Arranged by Leston Paul

I love the fete and the bacchanal
Calypso and the Carnival in my country [in my country]
I love to hear the sweet harmony
Pan sounding like a symphony in my land [in my land]
I love the air of serenity
The lovely people and scenery of my nation
I love the jokes and picong
Every rhythm and simple song
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

The happy song of the picoplat
Does lift my spirit and warm my heart in my country [in my country]
The brilliant sunrise over the hill
Does remind me of the Master's will in my land [in my land]
The hidden talents among the crowd
Does give me good reason to be proud of my nation
The joy and the camaraderie that pervades the community
As only a true Trini will understand

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

For me the greatest fun in the world
Is to climb up a greasy pole in my country [in my country]
No circus act or no theater show
Could entertain as a good limbo in my land [in my land]
No recipe or delicacy could beat
The pelau and dahlpourie of my nation
And when I put up a kite, I does shiver with sheer delight
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey!

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

I love the pois doux and callaloo
The manicou and the cascadou in my country [in my country]
I love the tassa drummology
Lighting deya for Divali in my land [in my land]
I love the moods and the attitudes
The tasty foods and the super dudes of my nation
Wherever I may roam, one good day I would come back home
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey!

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

Mweh ka allay!

Trust me, it's still there, Sarita. There's just a whole lot of smog that is clouding the view. Some people have become very cynical and they resent this optimism. I have no problem with people highlighting Trinbago's problems just as I welcome those who sing its praises. Both perspectives are required in the struggle...the one tells us what we have to overcome, the other tells us why. We live in paradise and yet we continue to kick ourselves out every day.

I accept your thanks on behalf of the persons who actually upload these treasures to YouTube. I just search continuously, find joyfully and embed, embed, embed.

I appreciate your comment!
