TRINI
By Benjai

I partying til it rain
I dressing up in my Red, White and Black
I don't care what nobody say, every Carnival, I done dey!
Plus I know all artistes and all the mas' bands.
Dem say I mad and I bad, I telling yuh
Where I from? I from Trinidad and Tobago
I'z a Trini, a Trini. I'z a Trini, a Trini, proud, proud Trini, a Trini.
Oh, 'cause they love how Trini does look, look, look, look, look
And they like how Trini does cook, cook, cook, cook, cook
And they like to hear Trini talk, talk, talk, talk, talk
And they like Trini woman wuk [Catholic masqueraders may "walk" at this point] wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk....
And we make good company, and we make good company, and we make good company.
We does dictate all the pace, partner.
We does represent for we soca.
We does sell out all the strong liquour.
We does represent for we soca.
Dem say we mad and we bad, I telling yuh
Where we from? We from Trinidad and Tobago.
And they love Trini woman wuk [Catholic masqueraders may "walk" at this point] wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk, wuk....

Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance!

A Note From The Gull

Thank you, Benjai! Haven't been this motivated to shake my tail feathers in a while, but then again I dreamed all last night about my nose being powdered by puffs of fragrant dahl with curry and mango sauce dripping down my chin as I bit into a delicious, hot roti. I awoke with a painful craving that could not be satisfied. The snow is two feet deep on the ground here and I am doing myself the supreme mischief of listening to Road March material.

Oh, shut up, Tantalus! You had it easy...nah, nah, nyah!

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

Mweh ka allay!
Guanaguanare
