Maria Antonia [Song]

Performed by Fuego Caribeño
Uploaded by Ramon Fortune

In the rendition above, the Trinbagonian singer from the band Fuego Caribeño repeats one verse for the entire performance where lines from different verses in the original are mixed. The rhythm is more or less representative of how most Trinbagonian parang groups deliver this song although I have heard the tempo quickened by different bands. The song, Maria Antonia, was originally composed by the Venezuelan, Gualberto Ibarreto, who sings it in the video below.

MARIA ANTONIA
Composed and performed by Gualberto Ibarreto [Venezuela]

Maria Antonia es una mujer | Maria Antonia is a woman
Que está loca de remate | who is completely mad
De la locura que tiene | In her madness
Duerme entre el escaparate| She sleeps in the wardrobe. [Repeat]

Maria Antonia, tú estas loca | Maria Antonia, you are mad
Déjate de tonteria | Stop this nonsense
Métete en el manicomio | Put yourself in the madhouse
Y se te quita ésa mania. | And get rid of that insanity. [Repeat]

Cuando amanece furiosa | When dawn breaks
Con su marido pelea | furious, she fights with her husband
Se baña sobre la mesa | She bathes on the table
Y duerme entre la batea. | And sleeps in the tub. [Repeat]

Maria Antonia, tú estas loca | Maria Antonia, you are mad
Déjate de tonteria | Stop this nonsense
Métete en el manicomio | Put yourself in the madhouse
Y se te quita ésa mania. | And get rid of that insanity. [Repeat]

Maria Antonia se laba el pelo | Maria Antonia washes her hair
Con agua oxigenada ,| with hydrogen peroxide
Y le dice a su marido | and says to her husband,
"Aquí no ha pasado nada!" | "Nothing has happened here!" [Repeat]

Maria Antonia, tú estas loca | Maria Antonia, you are mad
Déjate de tonteria | Stop this nonsense
Métete en el manicomio | Put yourself in the madhouse
Y se te quita ésa mania. | And get rid of that insanity. [Repeat]

Maria Antonia es una mujer | Maria Antoniais a woman
Que está loca de remate | who is completely mad
Escribe con una escoba | She writes with a broom
Y barre con un Paper Mate | And sweeps with a Paper Mate. [Repeat]

Maria Antonia, tú estas loca | Maria Antonia, you are mad
Déjate de tonteria | Stop this nonsense
Métete en el manicomio | Put yourself in the madhouse
Y se te quita ésa mania. | And get rid of that insanity. [Repeat]

Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance! ..............................................................................................................................

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.
