DEMONS IN T&T
By Natasha
Arranged by Errol Ince
Dirty Dancing T&T 1991

There is a demon travelling our street everyday
Causing death and destruction on the youths of this nation
We to find a way to stop them now
Before it's too late we have to educate them now

We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs is a real hambug
We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs are their demons
We got to fight harder to catch them monsters
That killing our youngsters

So many teenagers are being led astray
Too many of them rely on violence today
Drugs not a part of our heritage
We got to show them how to not be violent
And overcome self-destruction

We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs is a real hambug
We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs are their demons
We got to fight harder to catch them monsters
That killing our youngsters.

I'm a teenager of this beautiful land
No one can corrupt me, I want you to understand
I want to be an example for the youths of our nation
Please help me right now, help me to teach them now.

We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs is a real hambug
We got to teach the children to say no to drugs
Stay clear from temptation, drugs are their demons
We got to fight harder to catch them monsters
That killing our youngsters.

Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance!

TOBAGO INDEPENDENCE
By Lord Melody

The people in Tobago, they want to run their own show
Robinson going mad, they want independence from Trinidad [you hear]
They want to run their island, predict their own destination
But the Doctor tell them flat They ent have enough resources for that.

Spoken words: Mister Speaker, I want you to know that the People's National Movement is fully aware of what's happening in Trinidad and Tobago today and we are capable of taking care of our problems. So what kind of damn nonsense you telling me?

The opposition party is fighting vigorously
They say the Doctor mad, Tobago could do without Trinidad [he say]
They build hotels like fire in Scarborough and Moriah
They beaches they will build to make Tobago a Beverly Hills.

Spoken words: What are you trying to tell me? You going to take the people from the copra and coconut estate to work in the hotels? Don't you know you have to have trained people for that kind of thing? Well, what is this world coming to?

Too much complication between them politicians
They always fighting war, this time I don't know what they fighting for [because]
My father Tobagonian, my mother Trinidadian
Oh no, Robinson, no! No independence for Tobago.

Spoken words: What are you trying to do? Have the people of Trinidad and Tobago obtain a passport to go to see their families in Tobago? That will never happen. Over my dying body. It is impossible, Mister Speaker!

When Robinson were William and William was Robinson
Fifteen years ago, they didn't care a damn about Tobago [but since]
They kick him out the party, he threatening everybody
He run to Tobago making he own self a pappyshow.

Spoken words: When you was Minister of Finance you never mention a word about Tobago. You wasn't capable at that time. There is no difference now. And money is no problem. We can take up -------- on Tobago if we have to.

Happy Valentine's Forever...

"Fly Me To The Moon" performed by Olivia Ong.

The process of collapsing all my blogs into this blog has been completed. I've now cleared away the extraneous stuff not directly related to songs/poems about Trinbago. I have moved those posts to a new group blog. The INDEX [See linked tab at top of page] is finally up to date. Some of my interests have been taking me down another path for a while now and this blog cannot serve all so I will write elsewhere and preserve this blog as an archive of songs for the visitors who continue to search the site for songs about Trinidad and Tobago. It has been a pleasure to transcribe and organise these works. I cannot promise to post with any regularity in the future but if I come across relevant songs I will try to include them. I have moved the list of Trinbagonian blogs/sites that used to be on the right sidebar over to the left sidebar. The blogs which I list at present represent only a fraction of the Trinbagonian blogs available. I will no longer actively search for those that have eluded my notice.

You take care of yourselves and I will meet you again and again and again in all the ways in which it is possible for the spirit of an expatriate to return to his/her roots.

I have always wanted to be yours and my Valentine's message today is, as always:

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
