CITIZENS
By Mighty Trini

For so many years in this country, we are a nation [all of us]
With laughter and tears, together we form a foundation [all of us]
We are who responsible for the way how it is in our society today

We are the citizens. We are the patriots.
We are the nationals.
We are independent [people]
Staking a claim [people]
Making a name [people]
Looking for fame, everybody playing the game
We are like cousins for many reasons
All of us are citizens.

It is we who stand up with pride and sing the anthem [all of us]
We it is who live side by side to form a system [all of us]
We who is the government, we who does sit down in parliament and become eminent.

We are the citizens. We are the patriots.
We are the nationals.
We are intelligent [people]
Aspiring [people]
Developing [people]
Acquiring, everybody contributing
Just like the seasons on the horizons
All of us are citizens.

By sacrifice, we, you and I moulding our culture [all of us]
Paying the price, we live and die shaping the future [all of us]
We are the parents of children destined to be men and women tomorrow if and when.

We are the citizens. We are the patriots.
We are the nationals.
We are a competent [people]
In company [people]
In harmony [people]
A symphony, one common cause, one destiny
We are the persons who teach the lessons
All of us are citizens.

We have to know from whence we came and where we're going [all of us]
We ought to show how high to aim and keep on growing [all of us]
We who must have the courage to acknowledge, aspire, acquire, conceive and achieve.

We are the citizens. We are the patriots.
We are the nationals.
We are a Caribbean [people]
Trinidadian [people]
Tobagonian [people]
Cosmopolitan, ------------------------
We bear the burdens, don't care what happens
All of us are citizens.

[We are the citizens. We are the nationals.]
[We are the patriots.]
[People] Antiguan
[People] Jamaican
[People] St. Lucian

[We are the citizens. We are the nationals.]
[We are the patriots.]
[People] Grenadian
[People] Barbadian
[People] Vincentian

[We are the citizens. We are the nationals.]
[We are the patriots]...

Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance!

A Note From The Gull

Thank you, Mighty Trini! .

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

Mweh ka allay!

Hi Guanaguanare,

As I savored a non-Tropical beverage in the glitzy Grand Atrium of my ship as it recently cruised the decidedly non-Tropical fiords of Alaska, I thought of your efforts to promote awareness of music of the Caribbean and hoped that your blog would encourage others to increase that awareness.

Why that thought at that time and in that place? Well, here were these hundreds of passengers enjoying the Oldies being played by a Filipino trio, the sound embellished periodically by a synthesized steelpan , at times a line or two from a very old calypso such as "Mathilda", and I would hazard that not more than one or two of the listeners could acknowledge the source of their enjoyment.

Louis!!! I am even gladder than usual to hear from you! I was beginning to worry because I'd been visiting your blog and wondering where you'd gone to. Your absence is felt. I had no idea that you've been cruising in the lap of luxury! Well, I am so relieved and so happy that you are well and enjoying the beauty of Alaska. While I write this, the browser is displaying the cover of Penguin's 1982 album "Life is a lollipop". It seems appropriate as I congratulate you on taking the time to enjoy this life we've been given. Very interesting thoughts on the music which has become associated with carefree, vacationing even when it's far removed from the tropics. Enjoy!!
Blessings to you and yours.
