THE WEDDING
Performed by Chucky Gordon

This is wedding!
Shaadi! Shaadi! Shaadi! Shaadi! Shaadi!

They send out invitation to the whole population of our lil' nation
A wedding celebration beyond imagination down in the stadium
And if you see the crowd come out, come out
From east, west, north and south, from all about.

And then so suddenly King Machel and Iwer
Faye-Ann, Kes and Super appear on the bannister
Tassa was best man together with steelband
Everybody happy for the wedding of the century.

Was no dulahin, and no dulaha
It was the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ay yaye yay, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ah ha ha, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca.

For such a big occasion they couldn’t depend on one man,
He couldn’t handle it
So they decide to invite a priest, imam and pundit to preside over it
Women in dey sari, pretty, pretty and men in dashiki, happy, happy.

And then so suddenly Drupati and Bunji
K.I., Blaxx and Destra appear on the bannister
Tassa was best man together with steelband
Everybody happy for the wedding of the century.

Was no dulahin, and no dulaha
It was the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ay yaye yay, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ah ha ha, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca

I see Selwyn from Toco liming with Sat and Cro Cro
They couldn’t pull them apart
Khafra was in a dhoti, Devant in a dashiki, that really touch my heart
Is then I start to see, to see, to see what Trinbago could be, could be, could be.

And then so suddenly Ray Holman and Boogsie
Rikki Jai and Karma start jamming some sweet soca
And then the steelband playing chutney on pan
Plus a rhythm section, it was mayhem in the stadium.

Was no dulahin, and no dulaha
It was the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ay yaye yay, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ah ha ha, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ay yaye yay, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca
Ah ha ha, oh yo yoy, the wedding of Chutney and Soca...

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.
