THE POOR MAN
By Gypsy
Arranged by Frankie McIntosh & Gypsy
Album: "Yesterday's Children" T&T, 1989
Well I'm sure that you've heard before that it is a crime to be poor
But if you were ever poor then you know it more for sure
Any time that the buck is passed, the poor man have to wait for last
Is a shame and disgrace the abuse the poor have to face.
Simply because...
The rich man don't care 'bout the poor man
The middle class man don't care 'bout the poor man...No!
And the poor man can't afford to care 'bout the poor man...Oh no, I say
In this land, I can't understand who cares 'bout the poor man.
When the prices of goods raise high, the rich could afford to buy
Somehow or the other the middle class would still get by
But life have the poor man up on he toes and every door that he knock is closed
To whom or where could he turn, God in heaven knows.
The straight case is...
The rich man don't care 'bout the poor man
The middle class man don't care 'bout the poor man
For the poor man can't afford to care 'bout the poor man...Oh no, I say
In this land I can't understand who cares 'bout the poor man
When they talk about the poor man, they always have some big time plans
That more often than not slowly fade into oblivion
When their political dice is rolled is on the poor that it take its toll
As their power play goes on they are using the poor as pawns
Simply because...
The rich man don't care 'bout the poor man
Them politicians don't care 'bout the poor man
And the poor man can't afford to care 'bout the poor man...Oh no, I say
In this land I ask this question, "Who cares 'bout the poor man?"
It's a terrible state indeed and there are a whole lot of hearts that bleed
But through struggle and pain the poor of this world must still proceed
To shoulder their burden and simply cope
Most of the time just hope against hope
That someone would care so their dreams don't die in despair.
Knowing full well...
The rich man don't care 'bout the poor man
The middle class don't care' bout the poor man
And the poor man can't afford to care bout the poor man...Oh no, I say
In this land, I don't understand who cares 'bout the poor man.
The rich man don't care 'bout the poor man
The middle class don't care 'bout the poor man
For the poor man can't afford to care 'bout the poor man... No, I tell you
So in this land, I can't understand who cares 'bout the poor man.
[Don't care 'bout the poor man] Is a crime to be poor
[Don't care 'bout the poor man] Well you heard that before
So in this land, I can't understand who cares 'bout the poor man...

N.B. The lyrics posted on this blog are often transcribed directly from performances. Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance!

A Note From The Gull
Thank you, Gypsy.
"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.
Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.
Mweh ka allay!
