GOD BLESS OUR NATION
By Baker (1967)

We like a drop of rain in an ocean, like a drop in the sea
But many, many nations still got to learn from we
How we aspire and we achieve
It's so hard to believe
Unity that is so unique
It's fantastic, yes, so to speak.

It's fantastic, yes it is, the way how we live as one
In integration our lil nation is second to none
Here the Negroes, the white man, the Chinese, the Indian
We walk together in hand
In this wonderland of calypso, in this wonderland of steelband
Where I was born...God bless our Nation!

We may never invent a bomb, or on the moon ever land a man
Our population isn't yet a million
So then that is no disgrace for Trinidadians have set the pace
And proved every colour, creed and race
In this world could find an equal place.

So you see...
It's fantastic, yes it is, the way how we live as one
In integration our lil nation is second to none
Here the Negroes, the white man, the Chinese, their children
They play together in the sand
In this wonderland of calypso, in this wonderland of steelband
Where I was born...God bless our Nation!

All I can say is I am so proud
And I'm going to sing it out clear and loud
Yes, I'm proud of my people - each and every one of you
For contributing to humanity and contented beings we always will be
Whenever the stories are said how Trinidadians lived
What the world thought was dead.

So you see...
It's fantastic, yes it is, the way how we live as one
In integration our lil nation is second to none
Here the Negroes, the white man, the Chinese, the Indian
We jump together in a band
In this wonderland of calypso, in this wonderland of steelband
Where I was born...God bless our Nation!

Source: The lyrics posted on this blog are often transcribed directly from performances. Although it is my intention to faithfully transcribe I do not get all the words and I have a knack for hearing the wrong thing. Please feel free to correct me or to fill in the words that I miss by dropping me a message via e-mail. I'd be forever grateful. Thanks in advance!

A Note From The Gull

Thank you, Baker!

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

Mweh ka allay!
