Regretfully, I was on the road yesterday and missed Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley's opening of the debate on a no-confidence motion against our Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar but I have been able to hear Minister Roodal Moonilal. Minister Anil Roberts, Dr. Amery Browne, Mrs. Patricia McIntosh, the Hon. Errol McLeod, Mr. Fitzgerald Jeffrey, Colm Imbert, Minister Jack Warner, Minister Glenn Ramadharsingh, Marlene McDonald, Minister Winston Dookeran, Minister Herbert Volney and Minister Tim Gopeesingh. The Leader of the Opposition. Keith Rowley has just begun to speak.
I will anxiously await the full text of this debate since I missed many hours.
This is riveting and I hope that I can follow the debate until its conclusion. I thank Mister Rowley for filing this motion.
No, Mister Volney, the country is not traumatised, and for the citizens who have been wanting a progress report, it does not matter what the motives were for filing the motion, this debate is NOT a waste of time. I was just telling a friend that for me it was a welcome opportunity to meet our managers again and to have the opportunity to listen to their contributions and to assess the content and tone of their responses and by extension something about their characters. It has been illuminating.
Government of the people, think about the future. Instead of telling the Leader of the Opposition that he must never ever file a motion of no confidence, learn from this and be more forthcoming. Put in place some mechanism for reporting honestly and more regularly to the people on what has been accomplished, what is in the works and how problems and wrongs are being addressed.
NO government should ever think itself above being questioned.
