NEVER EVER WORRY By Lord Pretender (1961) Some people in the world today Don't realise that worries don't pay Plenty people in the world today Don't realise that worries don't pay Resting their worries upon your shoulder Only bringing you older and older These wicked things them people does do They don't realise you have worries too. Tell them to... Never ever worry, don't mind how things looking hard...ah say to tell them Never ever worry, don't mind how you suffering bad Never ever worry, what I’m saying is true Always consider somebody suffering more than you When I was young, Granny said to me Alric boy, never ever worry Or your problems would seem bigger and bigger And you’ll be living a life of torture She told me, as a matter of fact To fling all mih troubles behind mih back Keep in touch with the Almighty For guidance, love and stability She said to... Never ever worry, don't mind how things looking hard...mih granny told me Never ever worry, don't mind how you suffering bad...mih granny tell me Never ever worry, what I’m saying is true Always consider somebody suffering more than you. Dis one happen a few weeks ago, which part, quite down in Toco A fellah wanted to commit suicide You know he ran quite down by the wayside Only a fig the man had to eat He eat the fig and threw the fig skin in the street From the time that the fig skin fall by he feet A fellah snatch it up and started to eat And he told him... Never ever worry, you feel that things really hard...the fellah tell him Never ever worry, you feel that you suffering bad...yes, he told him Never ever worry, what I’m saying is true Presently you could see, somebody suffering more than you. I'm sure you heard or you either read What all these great scientists have said Is a fact and I've been told Worries is the worse sickness in the world Oh yes, they further explain If you let worries take charge of your brain Ten to one, you'll end up like a louse Stark staring mad in the crazy house That's right Never ever worry, don't mind how things looking hard...ah tell you Never ever worry, don't mind how you suffering bad...ah tell you Never ever worry, what I’m saying is true Anywhere you turn, somebody suffering more than you. Never ever worry, don't mind how things looking hard...ah tell you Never ever worry, don't mind how you suffering bad Never ever worry, what I’m saying is true Always consider, somebody suffering more than you....

Thank you Lord Pretender. We need the consolation but for many people, this advice is very difficult to take.

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

A Note From The Gull

This song came out in 1994 and its message was important then and even more urgent today. Trinbagonians on the ground are so fortunate to live in a country where the earth will produce all year round. As food supplies become unreliable and prices increase and as we also become increasingly and justifiably more concerned about the quality/safety of the food which is available, I think that much, much more attention should be paid to encouraging and supporting each other in "Grow Your Own Food" drives.

So, if you are fortunate enough to have some land around your home, or a space to accommodate some large containers, take Iwer's advice. If your families are like mine, the Mamas will insist on growing ornamentals and the Papas will protest, "But yuh cyah eat flowers!" and you will have to find the happy medium to satisfy the needs of both bellies and souls.

But what of our Trinbagonians who are not fortunate enough to have access to land or even a large outdoor space in which to grow potted plants? We had friends who, having no land of their own, went on land that was vacant (whether crown or private) and established gardens there. We didn't see anything wrong in that, in fact, as far as we were concerned, their labour for their families was heroic and earned only our respect. Here, where I am located today, there are city sponsored community gardens where people who don't have land can apply for access to fenced plots in these gardens. Many people plant vegetables and others fulfill other needs by tending ornamentals. This is an idea, perhaps that could be introduced in Trinbago, in areas where people have no choice but to live in apartment blocks without access to plots of land to grow something.

Thank you, Iwer George.

I Love My Country [Song]

Uploaded by cool4rocknroll
I LOVE MY COUNTRY
Performed by Machel Montano (1986)
Arranged by Leston Paul

I love the fete and the bacchanal
Calypso and the Carnival in my country [in my country]
I love to hear the sweet harmony
Pan sounding like a symphony in my land [in my land]
I love the air of serenity
The lovely people and scenery of my nation
I love the jokes and picong
Every rhythm and simple song
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

The happy song of the picoplat
Does lift my spirit and warm my heart in my country [in my country]
The brilliant sunrise over the hill
Does remind me of the Master's will in my land [in my land]
The hidden talents among the crowd
Does give me good reason to be proud of my nation
The joy and the camaraderie that pervades the community
As only a true Trini will understand

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

For me the greatest fun in the world
Is to climb up a greasy pole in my country [in my country]
No circus act or no theater show
Could entertain as a good limbo in my land [in my land]
No recipe or delicacy could beat
The pelau and dahlpourie of my nation
And when I put up a kite, I does shiver with sheer delight
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey!

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.

I love the pois doux and callaloo
The manicou and the cascadou in my country [in my country]
I love the tassa drummology
Lighting deya for Divali in my land [in my land]
I love the moods and the attitudes
The tasty foods and the super dudes of my nation
Wherever I may roam, one good day I would come back home
As only a true Trini will understand...Ey!

Chorus:
I love my country, I love my land
I love my society, I love my nation
As a patriotic Trini, I would view with hostility
Any move to come between me and my country.
