The Message [Song]

Uploaded by DJ Secret Jamaica

THE MESSAGE
Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley and Bunji Garlin

There's music in your soul, minerals in your soil
Children full of beauty worth way much more than oil
While history unfolds, don't let a good thing spoil, oh no, no!

I'll apologize, seeing the crime rate rising infinite
Everywhere people around me a drop like fly, yet I live in it
I look to the sky and ask Almighty, "When will it finish?"
Is this a sign of the last days, the last few minutes?
'Cause the land overrun with knives and guns and murderous gimmicks
Good people ah run while bad people press murderous limits
I keep my faith and wait 'cause I know evil can't win it
But this is not the time and the place for the punks and timid
In a world that's supposed to be peaceful, every little youth turn killer.
None a dem have respect for the laws of land, dem a real blood spiller
Them forgot when the parents lay dem down in the beds and pillow
Saying, "Son grow up to be a good boy." but them get bigger and pull trigger
Every question, gunshot is the answer, well, go figure
Them don't want to dig deep in their heart
Searching for the goodness like an oil rigger, pure grave digger,
Well, this message from Bunji Garlin and the one Gongzilla
Almighty Father is telling you,

"There's music in your soul, minerals in your soil
Children full of beauty worth way much more than oil
While history unfolds, don't let a good thing spoil, oh no, no!"

Can I walk the Savannah at least, buy my pholourie in peace,
Without being trailed by a full detail of ten bodyguard and police?
Must something inna island breeze, make violence spread like disease
'Cause most juvenile guns out and while with no respect for og's
Can I walk round a Half Way Tree, with nobody else but me
With cash inna pocket and nobody a watch it and nobody a target me
Well, it must be the deep blue seas that spread to the bun and the cheese
That make everybody up inna the islands waan grab up something and squeeze
Can you imagine how the sword dem sharp
Man a hunt fi the bake and shark
Should a heed advice when the place did nice
That a before the whole thing start
Now every man stop tek talk and every man start think dark
Out in the street blood spray like paint when Juve a morning cork
Long time Kingston tell we to put down the gun
From Port of Spain to Hellshire
Don't get caught up making people head roll round like Michelin tire
From grandmother bawl and grandson a fall, your soul going to burn in fire
Don't let them get your life and draw your soul like it's a vampire.

There's music in your soul, minerals in your soil
Children full of beauty worth way much more than oil
While history unfolds, don't let a good thing spoil. oh no. no!

Check, check, check
You tripping to think you can punish and whip him
-----------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------
The way you frying,  your heartbeat start skipping
Father, forgive him, so young he doesn't know a life worth living
So strong, he doesn't know the strength You give him
So long a loser that he don't know winning
Drowning in the deep and he don't know swimming
Surrounded in the streets by a life of sinning
With no one that believes that a light shines in him
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
Nobody can't speak nor try talk with him
Angel of Mercy, make you please walk with him
And save anybody that cross path with him.

There's music in your soul, minerals in your soil
Children full of beauty worth way much more than oil
While history unfolds, don't let a good thing spoil, oh no, no!

Why are we killing ourself, why are we murdering the life?
Seeking the Devil now for help, why are we pushing God aside?
Look at the colour of the sky, you no see Jehovah, Him a cry?
Asking, "Why?", asking, "Why?", asking, "Why?"

Red, White and Black [Song]

Uploaded by Collis Duranty

RED, WHITE AND BLACK
By Collis Duranty

I just heard a shot ring out up the street
I wonder if someone got gunned down?
I put my sandals on and took a walk to see if I could be wrong
No surprise, two black brothers on the ground.
Someone run go call dem Mama, run go call dem Papa
But dem boys done gone, dem boys done gone
Papa reach first to see, then Mama jumped out a taxi bawling
"Lord, not my sons, not my sons!"

But hear me now:

It is too late, Mama, dem boys done cover
Too late, Papa, can't you see the undertakers?
But my observation of this story is a red bloodstained white sheet
With black boys underneath
Red, white and black,
Don't you see how this looks like our national flag, yeah?

Dem gone, dem boys dem gone
Dem gone, dem boys dem gone
I'm begging bad man, put down your guns
Put down your guns, put down your guns
Leh we leave Babylon and run and go fight for freedom.

A reporter tried to get a word
Papa said, no way, he ent talking
Mama said her boys, they were never bad children
Their eldest daughter so distraught all she said was,
"Mom, I have to tell the truth.
Dem boys live by the gun so we must buy their suit and bury them."
So who now who will call on Mama, who will call on Papa?
When dem boys done gone, dem boys done gone
.................. I could still hear Mama crying
"Lord, why my sons, why my sons!"

But help me sing this one:

It is too late, Mama, dem boys done cover
Too late, Papa, can't you see the undertakers?
But my observation of this story is a red bloodstained white sheet
With black boys underneath
Red, white and black,
Don't you see how this looks like our national flag, yeah?

Dem gone, dem boys dem gone
Dem gone, dem boys dem gone
I'm begging bad man, put down your guns
Put down, put down, put down your guns
Leh we leave Babylon and run and go fight for freedom.

Say dem gone, dem boys dem gone
I'm begging bad man, put down your guns
Put down, put down, put down your guns
Leh we leave Babylon and run and go fight for freedom.

Say dem gone, dem boys dem gone...

A Note From The Gull

Thank you, Collis Duranty.

I am thinking about all those who have died violent deaths at the hands of their countrymen. Whether or not we mourned their deaths, whether or not we stated privately or very publicly that we were glad to be rid of some of them, the fact remains that like the "upstanding" or the still standing citizens, these liquidated human beings were not without worth. "Bad man" like everything in a society is the result of collective effort or the lack thereof. No perpetually "ongoing" investigations will arrive at this conclusion. No commission of enquiry into "terrorism" will entertain this. We are in denial. Selective honesty motivates those who confess the "hard truths" about the skin colour of the majority of prison inmates or the perpetrators of violent crimes while ignoring other truths. Violence, corruption, greed, lawlessness, callousness, lack of respect, lack of dignity, utter lack of shame are now systemic. Whether black, white, brown, yellow, red or dappled, like possessed swine, we are rushing headlong over the cliff together.

Come out from among them.

Collis Duranty exhorts "bad man" to put down his gun and "Leh we leave Babylon and run and go fight for freedom." What is Babylon? Is it the Royal Jail? Is it Port of Spain? Is it a political party? Is it a class, colour or creed? Is it Trinidad and Tobago? Not at all. While all of the previously mentioned provide the environment for Babylon's manifestations, Babylon is established most intractably inside our heads and for some inside the soul. And how do we fight for this freedom? This is certainly not a fight that requires any man-made weapons. This fight is jihad and by that I do not mean the distorted interpretation of the concept for which we can thank a hate-filled minority. I refer to true jihad which is the internal spiritual battle each individual must constantly wage with his or her own weaknesses.

Come out from among them.

Separate yourselves from them. They prosper because of our complicity. Their energy is drawn from our participation. We buy and continue to buy into and we are bought. We spend and are spent. We waste and are wasted. All of these things of the world that we have been taught to cherish, all these things that we feel compelled to sell our peace of mind and souls to achieve, they are garbage.

Fair is foul and foul is fair. There is an insidious force that has now crawled over, surveyed and mapped every inch of this planet. It knows the price of our souls. Some call it Evil but I see it as the perversion that promotes and glorifies that which is unnatural, the thing that can only proceed by deceit, the thing that is anti-humanity, the thing that is sucking the life and health out of our bodies and minds and souls. We have demonstrated that we are fully capable of being its loyal minions. It is a choice that we make.

Come out from among them.

"Patria est communis omnium parens" - Our native land is the common parent of us all. Keep it beautiful, make it even more so.

Blessed is all of creation
Blessed be my beautiful people
Blessed be the day of our awakening
Blessed is my country
Blessed are her patient hills.

Give Yourself Life [Song]

GIVE YOURSELF LIFE
By Collis Duranty

Even though I know the road is rugged
And it seems hard to face it
Give it time, don't give up the fight.
I'm concerned about my nation and the younger generation
It's like we're losing stride, these youths don't want to realise
That the world out there is full of vultures
And their aim is to divide and conquer
They want to see you die
But don't let them make you die
You got to give yourself life and find your meaning
Find the reasons, reasons to live and love your life
And through the seasons just keep believing
There's a reason to live and love your life
And to give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life.

Youthman, youthwoman, I need you understand this
I know that you live in a time where half the story isn't told
And it's becoming so hard, so hard
To understand the values of the world
But I believe you can make it
I know you can try
We need your generation to change it, so lift your head up high
And push your limits past the sky and find your meaning
Find the reasons, reasons to live and love your life
And through the seasons just keep believing
There's a reason to live and love your life
And to give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life.

Youthman, youthwoman, I need you understand this
I know that you live in a time where half the story isn't told
And its becoming so hard, so hard
To understand the values of the world
But I believe you can make it
I know you can try
We need your generation to change it, so lift your head up high
And push your limits past the sky and find your meaning
Find the reasons, reasons to live and love your life
And through the seasons just keep believing
There's a reason to live and love your life
And to give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life
You gotta give yourself life.

Youthman, youthwoman, I need you understand this...
