La Vida [Song]

Whew!!! Trinidad and Tobago, after that marathon session, I cannot offer you from this distance any relaxant stronger than a song with a good vibe. Thank you, Keith Rowley, Leader of the Opposition. Thank you, Government of the People. The reflections on and analyses of what transpired over that marathon sitting will now begin and these discussions will of course continue for some time to come but for now shake it out and take a well-deserved break. This was necessary and I am proud of my country. I will be even prouder when it becomes evident that lessons have been learned and that as a result real improvements will be made.

LA VIDA
Performed by Machel Montano

Spoken:
If you love Carnival, put your hand in ah de air
If you love bacchanal, put your hand in ah de air
If you love festival, put your hand in ah de air
Say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
If you love Carnival, me say wine your body
If you love festival, me say wine your body
If you love bacchanal, me say wine your body
Say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...

Aye, no hay que llorar, que la vida es un carnaval,
Aye, there's no need to cry, because life is a Carnival
Es mas bello vivir cantando...oh, oh, oh, oh
It's more beautiful to live singing...oh, oh, oh, oh.
Aye, no hay que llorar, que la vida es un carnaval
Aye, there's no need to cry, because life is a Carnival
Y las penas se van cantando.
And your pains can be alleviated through song.

Todo aquel que piense que la vida es desigual,
Everyone out there that thinks that life is unfair,
Tiene que saber que no es asi,
Needs to know that's not the case,
Que la vida es una hermosura, hay que vivirla.
That life is beautiful, you just have to live it.
Todo aquel que piense que esta solo y que esta mal,
Everyone out there that thinks they are alone and that that's bad
Tiene que saber que no es asi,
Needs to know that's not the case,
Que en la vida no hay nadie solo, siempre hay alguien.
That in life no one is alone, there is always someone.

Todo aquel que piense que la vida siempre es cruel,
Everyone out there that thinks that life is always harsh,
Tiene que saber que no es asi,
Needs to know that's not the case,
Que tan solo hay momentos malos, y todo pasa.
That there are just bad times, and it will all pass.
Todo aquel que piense que esto nunca va a cambiar,
Everyone out there, that thinks that this will never change,
Tiene que saber que no es asi,
Needs to know that's not the case,
Que al mal tiempo buena cara, y todo cambiar.
The bad times will turn, it will all pass.

Carnival, Carnival is bacchanal, bacchanal
Carnival, Carnival is bacchanal, bacchanal
Carnival, Carnival is bacchanal, bacchanal
Carnival, Carnival is bacchanal, bacchanal

Aye, no hay que llorar, que la vida es un carnaval,
Aye, there's no need to cry, because life is a Carnival
Es mas bello vivir cantando...oh, oh, oh, oh
It's more beautiful to live singing...oh, oh, oh, oh.
Aye, no hay que llorar, que la vida es un carnaval
Aye, there's no need to cry, because life is a Carnival
Y las penas se van cantando.
And your pains can be alleviated through song.

Dr. A. Browne: "This Is Not A Forum For Matadors..."

Regretfully, I was on the road yesterday and missed Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley's opening of the debate on a no-confidence motion against our Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar but I have been able to hear Minister Roodal Moonilal. Minister Anil Roberts, Dr. Amery Browne, Mrs. Patricia McIntosh, the Hon. Errol McLeod, Mr. Fitzgerald Jeffrey, Colm Imbert, Minister Jack Warner, Minister Glenn Ramadharsingh, Marlene McDonald, Minister Winston Dookeran, Minister Herbert Volney and Minister Tim Gopeesingh. The Leader of the Opposition. Keith Rowley has just begun to speak.

I will anxiously await the full text of this debate since I missed many hours.

This is riveting and I hope that I can follow the debate until its conclusion. I thank Mister Rowley for filing this motion.

No, Mister Volney, the country is not traumatised, and for the citizens who have been wanting a progress report, it does not matter what the motives were for filing the motion, this debate is NOT a waste of time. I was just telling a friend that for me it was a welcome opportunity to meet our managers again and to have the opportunity to listen to their contributions and to assess the content and tone of their responses and by extension something about their characters. It has been illuminating.

Government of the people, think about the future. Instead of telling the Leader of the Opposition that he must never ever file a motion of no confidence, learn from this and be more forthcoming. Put in place some mechanism for reporting honestly and more regularly to the people on what has been accomplished, what is in the works and how problems and wrongs are being addressed.

NO government should ever think itself above being questioned.

You can tune in also via the Parliament Channel.

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye [Song]

Uploaded by VjZoshiEm

DUNIYA MEIN HUM AAYE

Sung by Lata Mangeshkar
Music by Naushad Ali and lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni
From the 1957 movie, "Mother India"

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega...
If one has come into this world, one must live...

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega
If one has come into this world, one must live
Jeevan Hai Agar Zehar To Peena Hi Padega
If life is like poison, one sometimes has to drink the poison
Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega
If one has come into this world, one must live
Jeevan Hai Agar Zehar To Peena Hi Padega
If life is like poison, one sometimes has to drink the poison.

Gir Gir Ke Museebat Mein Sambhalte Hi Rahenge
In tough times you fall, but one must get up and keep going
Jal Jaayen Magar Aag Pe Chalte Hi Rahenge
Even though one is burning, one must keep walking on the fire
Gir Gir Ke Museebat Mein Sambhalte Hi Rahenge
In tough times you fall, but one must get up and keep going
Jal Jaayen Magar Aag Pe Chalte Hi Rahenge
Even though one is burning, one must keep walking on the fire.

Gum Jisne Diye...
The one who gave us sadness...
Gum Jisne Diye Hain Wohi Gum Door Karega
The one who gave us sadness will be the one to take it away
Gum Jisne Diye Hain Wohi Gum Door Karega
The one who gave us sadness will be the one to take it away.

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega
If one has come into this world, one must live
Jeevan Hai Agar Zehar To Peena Hi Padega
If life is like poison, one sometimes has to drink the poison.

Aurat Hai Woh Aurat Jise Duniya Ki Sharam Hai
A woman that observes propriety is an exemplary woman
Sansaar Mein Bas Laaj Hi Naari Ka Dharam Hai
In this world, a woman keeps her integrity in adverse circumstances
Sansaar Mein Bas Laaj Hi Naari Ka Dharam Hai
In this world, a woman keeps her integrity in adverse circumstances.

Zinda hai jo...
The woman who lives...
Zinda hai jo izzat se vahi izzat se marega
The woman that lives with integrity and dies with the same is looked upon as being pure.
Zinda hai jo izzat se vahi izzat se marega
The woman that lives with integrity and dies with the same is looked upon as being pure.

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega
If one has come into this world, one must live
Jeevan Hai Agar Zehar To Peena Hi Padega
If life is like poison, one sometimes has to drink the poison.

Maalik Hai Tere Saath Na Darr Gum Se Tu Ae Dil
Oh my heart, don't be afraid, because God is with you
Mehnat Kare Insaan To Kya Kaam Hai Mushkil
If a person is hardworking, anything is possible
Maalik Hai Tere Saath Na Darr Gum Se Tu Ae Dil
Oh my heart, don't be afraid, because God is with you
Mehnat Kare Insaan To Kya Kaam Hai Mushkil
If a person is hardworking, anything is possible.

Jaisa Jo Kare...
As one sows...
Jaisa Jo Karega Yahan Waisa Hi Bharega
As one sows here, so one will reap
Jaisa Jo Karega Yahan Waisa Hi Bharega
As one sows here, so one will reap.

Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain To Jeena Hi Padega
If one has come into this world, one must live
Jeevan Hai Agar Zehar To Peena Hi Padega
If life is like poison, one sometimes has to drink the poison.

A Note From The Gull

I dedicate this song to our Prime Minister and to the Leader of the Opposition who have put their hands to the plough of leadership. I use plough in the singular because the fact is that they are tending the same field together. These are rough times but they must struggle side by side to find the best way to make it prosper.

Gir Gir Ke Museebat Mein Sambhalte Hi Rahenge
In tough times you fall, but one must get up and keep going
Jal Jaayen Magar Aag Pe Chalte Hi Rahenge
Even though one is burning, one must keep walking on the fire.

There is absolutely nothing sinister or ridiculous about this motion of no confidence having been filed. If this was the only way in which Mister Rowley felt he could have arranged an audience with our Prime Minister on behalf of those citizens who have unanswered questions, then we should be grateful to him. We must continue to ask ourselves questions about why such public dialogue is not a natural and regular occurrence.

I remain hopeful that in my lifetime I will witness the evolution of a more open, more participatory form of governance in this country. I listen to the voices of our people, the writers of letters and articles, the bloggers, the readers who comment online and I often find brilliance. If our government would only recognise and make use of that potential, we would be well on our way to a more just and sustainable society. Take as just one small example among thousands happening everyday of ordinary Trinbagonians voluntarily sharing ideas, opinions, critically examining policies, making solid recommendations, the comments by readers following the article, "Commercial’ onions harvested." in today's Express. Who listens to these minds? Which government will finally see the light and rise above all the rest to intelligently invite citizens to think along with their policy makers? Is there anyone else who also dreams of an intelligent society that encourages and incorporates and rewards such participation?

I look forward to the debate tomorrow and I hope that we will not be disappointed by the content of the contributions and the attitudes of the speakers. I trust that at its conclusion, this democracy will have advanced.
