Donkey City [Song]

Uploaded by TheRealDJGIBS

DONKEY CITY
By Sir Lancelot with Gerald Clark's Caribbean Serenaders [1944]

Ah, I went to Donkey City to exercise mih Donkey
And mih Donkey walked up to a Mule
So the Mule said to the Donkey,
"Saga boy, now don't you molest me
Donkey whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

"'Cause you're nothing but a Donkey, aha
Just a silly old Donkey, aha
And I don't like a Donkey, aha
When it's looking so funny, aha."
So the Mule said to the Donkey,
"Saga boy, now don't you molest me
Donkey, whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

I went to Morvant city with mih Uncle Willy
And mih uncle met a Yankee girl
So the girl said, "Uncle Willy,
Saga boy, now don't you molest me.
Uncle, whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

"'Cause you nothing but a Donkey
Just a silly old Donkey
And I don't like a Donkey
When he ent got no money."
So the girl said, "Uncle Willy,
Saga boy, now don't you molest me
Uncle, whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

So mih uncle Willy feeling rather silly
Whispered sweetly to the Yankee girl,
"Now although I ent got no money
Still in all, I love you, mih honey."
But she said, "No! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

"'Cause you nothing but a Donkey
Just a silly old Donkey, aha
And I don't like a Donkey, aha
When its looking so funny, aha."
So the girl said, "Uncle Willy,
Saga boy, now don't you molest me
Uncle, whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

Now you've heard my story of mih Uncle Willy
Of the Mule, the Donkey and the girl
Now, if you don't like my story,
It's too bad 'cause I got your money
"Uncle, whoa! Don't bother me now, I tell you."

Animal Sports Meeting [Song]

ANIMAL SPORTS MEETING
By Mighty Bomber

Big animal sports up at the Savannah, they invited Bomber
Animal sports up at the Savannah, they invited Bomber
So many events was on the program, I say, "Today is jam session."
But is one thing I can't forget, records tumble and big upset.

Because Donkey beat them in throwing the javelin, two hundred point nine
But when it come to big time cycling, Hog leave them behind
In pole vault and sprinting, Horse beat them by far
But Dog is a giant, he make them look small pulling tug o' war.

The Grandstand pack up with big time officials wearing their initials
R-A-T,  A-N-T  and  F-L-Y, them was rating high
Fowl and Cockroach get in bacchanal and Cockroach injury prove fatal
Bachac police surround the place and they charge the Fowl with a murder case.

Just because Donkey beat them in throwing the discus, but that wasn't all
When it came to Devil take the Hindmost, Cat make them look small
In long, broad and high jumping, Donkey was the star
Still Dog was the giant, he make them look small pulling tug o' war.

If you hear the noise them animal making, like the whole world shaking
Mule and Donkey start to kick one another, Jackass bawling, "Murder!"
Fly start heckling a hairy Spider, calling him "long leg" and "body snatcher"
Corbeau say, "They playing too rough. I don't get involved in such rotten stuff."

Just because Donkey beat them so bad in pole vaulting, if you see the pole!
Spider took a chance in match sprinting, foot break in a hole
In hop, skip and jumping, Crapaud was the star
Still Dog was the giant, he make them look small pulling tug o' war.

When the time was ripe for prize distribution, if you hear confusion
Goat decide to protest the meeting, so Sheep started bleating
Goat was the MC for the evening, and Sheep, the chief judge presiding
So the MC jump up and say, "Dog is the champion athlete today!"

Just because Donkey beat them in throwing the javelin, two hundred point nine
But when it come to big time cycling, Hog leave them behind
In pole vault and sprinting, Horse beat them by far
But Dog remain the giant, he make them look small pulling tug o' war.

Mule And Cobo [Song]

MULE AND COBO
By Young Killer

Big joke you'll hear, just take it cool
This happen with the cobo and a mule [Cobo is Trinispeak for corbeau]
Big joke you'll hear, just take it cool
This happen with the cobo and a mule
The mule feel tired so he lie down
Cobo think he dead, he fly down on the ground
Hungry like fire, ah fus he want to eat
Chook he head by the tail to test the meat.

Chorus:
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind.

Standing by Cobo Town
When I saw that the mule was coming down
Top speed, the tail up in the air
-----------------------------
Well, I couldn't believe what I seeing
Behind the mule tail the cobo was flying
Friends, look I laugh, I nearly dead
Seeing the cobo and I cannot see the head.

Chorus:
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind.

The mule turn, he head for Frederick Street
Well, is inside a store he get defeat
They hold him, they band him up with twine
And all this time the cobo lock behind
Friends, Mister Fletcher start to bawl
"What is this inside my store at all?
People breaking down my store to see
A cobo head, oh lord, inside a mule belly!
"

Chorus:
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind
[Brigadip brigadip, the mule running]
As if he flying with the cobo lock behind.

A Note From The Gull

Thank you, Leon Roach for this rendition of Killer's disturbing/fascinating "Mule and Cobo". I have no idea how these calypsonians got their inspiration. I couldn't come up with this story in a million years. I am very familiar with corbeaux and I know that vultures in general begin their feasts at natural orifices and the softest parts of carcasses, which include the "nether regions". But how do you move from this knowledge to visualising a mule running for its life with a corbeau attached? I remain torn between feeling distressed for the poor mule and being amazed by the scene. Since I cannot be sure if the corbeau is there willingly or locked against his will in a sphincter clench, I don't know what to feel for the miserable bird.
